Where this data comes from
What is temperature anomaly?
A temperature anomaly is the difference from a long-term baseline average (commonly 1951–1980), not an absolute temperature. It shows how much warmer or cooler a period is relative to that reference.
What is CO₂ concentration?
Measured in parts per million (ppm), it indicates how many CO₂ molecules exist per million molecules of air — a direct proxy for the atmosphere's heat-trapping capacity.
What is a carbon footprint?
The total greenhouse gases (converted to CO₂-equivalent) caused directly and indirectly by a person, product, or activity across its full lifecycle.
Weather vs. climate
Weather is the day-to-day atmospheric state; climate is the long-term statistical pattern of weather over decades. A cold week doesn't disprove a warming climate.
